These Celtic fans have been reacting to comments made by Frank McAvennie about Leigh Griffiths following his recent performance against Falkirk.

Griffiths’ future at the club is somewhat in jeopardy right now, with a recent report claiming that he “fears he is on a countdown to being freed” with his contract set to expire this summer. The club, however, can activate a one-year option in his deal, though that needs to be triggered by the end of the month.

He didn’t do himself any favours in the Falkirk clash missing a number of opportunities, but speaking in an interview with Football Insider, McAvennie thinks that the 30-year-old, valued at £1.35m on Transfermarkt, still deserves his chance to shine at Celtic Park, saying he’s one of the best finishers at the club:

“When he gets those chances, nine out of ten he’ll put away but he’s not been playing that much so I’ll give him the benefit of the doubt. But if they give him more game time, and I hope they do, he’ll put them away because for me, he’s the best finisher there.”

These comments were relayed to fans on the Celtic Insider Facebook page, where there were plenty of fans who agreed with McAvennie, saying that he deserves his chance at the club:

Although based on his record this season, he really does need to prove that he still has that deadly finishing ability with time running out.
