It was reported on Thursday that Celtic were ‘increasingly confident’ of appointing Eddie Howe as Neil Lennon’s replacement.

The Hoops were said to be ‘close to agreement’ with the former Bournemouth boss, who made his name by leading the Cherries from League Two to the English Premier League (via The Guardian).

But a report from Football Insider suggests the deal could possibly be hijacked.

Crystal Palace are apparently ready to intervene, having identified Howe as a prime replacement for Roy Hodgson, whose contract expires at the end of this season.

It remains to be seen if Howe’s head has been turned, though Celtic’s European prospects could theoretically give them the edge.

Celtic fans left to sweat as they wait for Howe reassurance

Facebook fan feed Celtic Insider relayed the concerning report to supporters on Saturday.

A couple of fans bemoaned the Hoops’ supposed hesitancy.

And one even compared it to the failure to tie-up a deal for defender Ben Davies in the January transfer window.

According to the Athletic, Davies was ‘poised to sign for Celtic’ from Preston North End before Liverpool swooped in at the last.
