TalkSPORT pundit Darren Lewis is confident that Tottenham Hotspur boss Jose Mourinho will still be at the club next season.
The Portuguese tactician has found himself under pressure at various points this season, a campaign that has seen them fall well behind in the title race and be dumped out of Europe at the Round of 16.
There have even been reports that he will be sacked if he fails to finish in the top four this season, and speaking on the talkSPORT Gameday podcast (37:36), Lewis still has faith that he will be able to turn this season into a success, both in the league as well as in the Carabao Cup:
“I think Jose Mourinho will be there next season because I think he might confound a few people, I still think he’s got a chance, he clearly does have a mathematical chance of finishing in the top four. He’s certainly got the firepower to be able to do that.
“People are writing them off for the League Cup final, but I think it’s entirely possible that if anybody can find a way to pull off the kind of master class that would stop the city machine. that’s Jose Mourinho.”
Should Spurs sack Mourinho?
TIF Thoughts on Darren Lewis’ comments about Jose Mourinho’s future
Lewis is certainly confident in Mourinho’s abilities, and to be fair he has a point. On any given day a Mourinho side has the capability to beat anyone, as they proved earlier in the season when they beat Man City 2-0.
It’s a different matter in the league though, whilst they do have a somewhat favourable schedule when it comes to the Premier League, they have shown their ability to stumble at times this season. So it will have to take more than just a few one-off performances to get over the line, especially given the gap they have. On that front they really can’t afford any more slip-ups.
