Tottenham Hotspur supporters have been reacting on Twitter after the Tottenham Hotspur Supporters Trust (THST) released a statement condemning the club’s participation in the newly-proposed Super League.

The north London outfit are part of a breakaway group of 12 European teams who have stated their intention to form a new midweek competition, although it has caused a huge backlash amongst football fans and people within the industry.

Organisations such as UEFA and the Premier League have threatened Spurs and the other founding clubs with some serious sanctions if they go through with the proposed plans, and the THST issued a statement revealing their thoughts on the plans.

“We have always tried to maintain a pragmatic position of engagement with the Board of THFC, even under the most trying of circumstances,” it reads.

“But enough is enough. The current Board is prepared to risk the Club’s reputation and its future in the opportunistic pursuit of greed.” And it seems as though a large section of the Spurs fanbase is in agreement.

“This is what Levy’s Spurs has become. He said he was merely a custodian of this great club. Pure greed, highlights why Levy needs to get out of Tottenham. Thanks for the superb training facilities & stadium now get out. Utter contempt for our club and game.”

@PJC78

“I fully support this statement. Last month Spurs were knocked out of Europe by Dinamo Zagreb. It was painful but deserved. The #ESL seeks to ensure that this kind of fixture never happens again.”

@koonalshah

“That statement will have uncle Joe quaking in his boots and calling for new owners is that really in there, if someone paid that money they’d want, if not need a super league.”

“Well said”

@Bridgetowncomps

“Very strong words here that is good to see.”

@Spurs_Daily

“Get out of our club Daniel Levy & Joe Lewis.”

@bobbydwyer1989

“Well said. Nothing but pure greed.”

@StuHeslegrave

“Fantastic statement. Thank you”
