Leeds United supporters have been reacting on Twitter after Beren Cross offered his assessment of Helder Costa.

The Portuguese winger made just his 11th Premier League start of the season over the weekend due to loanee Jack Harrison being ineligible against his parent club.

Costa has faced some criticism throughout the season, leading to speculation that the 27-year-old could depart the west Yorkshire side this summer, but his magnificent display in the Elland Road outfit’s stunning 2-1 victory over league-leaders Manchester City last time out appears to have altered that view.

Cross’s report on Leeds Live claimed the former Wolves winger ‘may well have shown enough to remain a part of (Marcelo) Bielsa’s core group next term,’ after his performance at the Etihad Stadium over the weekend, and it seems most Leeds fans are in agreement.

“I’d keep him for one more season at least”

@ronaallleeds

“He does much better when he starts a game than when he only has 30mins as a sub. Mad to see people want rid of him he is a useful squad player and we have a small enough squad as it is.”

@AlexanderWils0n

“He doesn’t need to prove himself. All-in-all he’s had a decent season: was unlucky vs Palace which led to a spell out of the team where he couldn’t find his feet. Been excellent recently. As a fanbase we need to get behind him, talk of replacements is benign as Bielsa likes him.”

@qatarwhites

“Why do we need to sell all our fringe players? I see him having a good role to play in our squad next year, just because he is not first 11 doesn’t mean he should go.”

@AndyPantling

“The uninformed and unintelligent will be pleased. He’s a talented player. A confidence player. And he has the ability to deceive opponents with a simple drop of the shoulder. If he goes he will be a success very decent player. I hope we keep him.”

@drasnah

“Costa showed us he possesses PL quality, something he has shown us before. We should keep him imo.”

@lasse_daa

The likes of Harrison and Raphinha have limited Costa’s playing time in the top-flight this season, but he showed he’s more than capable of stepping up in their absence with his performance on Saturday.
