Many Celtic fans have been fuming at Neil Lennon after some of his comments recently emerged on social media.

Lennon was recently talking to The Scottish Mail on Sunday (via 67HailHail) and he said that the players who are leaving Celtic are departing because of money and not ambition. He believes that there is a disparity between what Celtic can pay and what other clubs can pay in terms of wages to players.

He feels that Celtic offer the chance to win trophies and play European football and it is something not all clubs can offer. He doesn’t believe that players always leave Celtic to progress their careers but they certainly end up earning more.

These comments from the Celtic manager were relayed on Facebook by Celtic News Now. Many Hoops supporters made their views clear about them.

What did Celtic fans make of Lennon’s comments?

He also made it clear that certain players still don’t want to be at Celtic, referring back to the comments that he had made following the club’s loss to Ferencvaros in the Champions League qualifiers earlier in the campaign.

Which club did Brown join Celtic from?

After that game, Lennon had said that the players had themselves to blame for the defeat and he urged them to get their mentality and attitude right.

Some Celtic fans feel that these comments are a sign of the fact that Lennon has lost the club’s dressing room and he should be axed.

The Hoops are as many as 23 points behind Rangers in the Premiership table and they’ve been knocked out of the Europa League and the League Cup already. That might be a sign that Lennon has lost the dressing room, while the Hoops have also managed to win just one of their last six league games.

These are bad signs and it shows that Lennon’s comments after Ferencvaros perhaps didn’t have the desired effect and the players might not be buying into his methods. So sacking him might be a good option right now.
