Tottenham Hotspur fans have flocked to a tweet from journalist Alasdair Gold about the future of Dele Alli.

Having been used sparingly so far this season under Jose Mourinho, it was no surprise to see his name circulating about a potential transfer in a search for first-team football, especially when former Spurs boss Mauricio Pochettino was appointed at French side Paris Saint-Germain. But according to the latest report in The Athletic, it looks as if he will be staying in North London, at least for the short term.

So now, attention turns to whether or not he is likely to be getting any more action this season. Taking to Twitter, Gold said that it is up to the two sides to try and find some ‘middle ground’ in order to try and get him on the pitch.

However, in response to his tweet, these supporters seem to put the onus more on Mourinho to do more to make things happen rather than the 24-year-old:

“José would be a complete fool if he didn’t throw Dele into the mix now. José is an intelligent man, and a great champion, but I really feel his ego is what’s stopping him with Dele. He has got to play him. We are too poor to not be playing one of our best players. Simple as that.”

“Jose needs to swallow his pride and get Dele back into the team ….. fizzing balls into the box for Sonny and Vinicius”
“Jose has to get him onside, he has to use this man-manager reputation he has to get Dele motivated. Just like Tanguy, we can see Dele can be a bit too relaxed at times, if he can take that on board maturely and become the player we think he can, everybody wins.”
“We are done for if Jose doesn’t want to use Dele when we employ Lamela”
“In the situation we’re currently in, Jose has to drop his ego and get him back in the squad. We could have seriously done with him yesterday. No excuses now. To not use him would be the definition of cutting off your nose to spite your face.”
“If true, the olive branches need to be passed about and add Aurier into that mix as well. Everyone come to an understanding and move forward.”
“This is a massive problem. We have players like Aurier, Sanchez, Davies, Winks, Lamela, Dele they have been with us for years and years and aren’t good enough. Yet we fail to get rid of them which means we don’t have wage structure to be able to add new talent”

Would you like to see Dele Alli given the chance to re-find his form with Spurs?

No, he needs to go

No, he needs to go

Yes, he should stay

Yes, he should stay

With Harry Kane’s latest injury, and Gareth Bale’s place in the side coming into question, there could still be a chance for him to prove himself yet, whether or not it actually happens though, we’ll just have to wait and see.
