Fans of Celtic have taken to Twitter to criticise the performance of Hoops central midfielder, Callum McGregor, in the club’s Scottish Premiership fixture against St Mirren.

Having scored three goals and provided six assists over his 26 Premiership games so far this season – prior to the St Mirren fixture – McGregor has been one of Neil Lennon’s better players this term, with the 27-year-old’s average WhoScored match rating of 7.13 ranking him as the club’s 10th-best performer in the Scottish top flight.

However, fans of Celtic appeared to be far from happy with the £5.85 million-rated man’s performance on Wednesday evening, with a great many taking to Twitter to share their rather negative thoughts regarding McGregor’s display.

So, what exactly did these Celtic fans have to say in reaction to Callum McGregor’s performance against St Mirren?

“What position is McGregor playing?”

@Paulmullen4

“McGregor rubbish all season”

@slievegullion1

“McGregor has been stinking”

@kieranmc_1

“McGregor is crying out to be rested. Has not kicked a ball in months. Even struggling with the basics!!!!”

@markmcguire04

“Callum McGregor getting picked on reputation alone. He’s a passenger again tonight. Would be better with Christie in there.”

@toptim77

“Drop McGregor. He’s awful.”

@GelmerodaIII

All in all, it would appear that the vast majority of these Celtic fans were far from happy with McGregor’s display, with some stating their belief that the midfielder is only being picked due to his reputation, while others claimed that the 27-year-old’s display was awful.

He managed a respectable 7.2 rating (as per SofaScore), so perhaps some fans are being a bit harsh, though he was was the joint-third lowest rated out of the Hoops’ starting XI.
