Tottenham fans have been slating the performance of Matt Doherty during their game against Everton in the FA Cup.

Spurs have not won any silverware since they lifted the League Cup in 2007/08. And having already sealed their place in the final of the League Cup and into the last 32 of the Europa League, the more competitions they’re in the hunt for, the better.

However, one person who came in for an absolute hammering from the supporters was the right-back Doherty who they spent a good chunk of money on to sign from Wolves in the summer. He’s put in a rather sloppy display at the back, including plenty of misplaced passes and giving away a number of fouls on top of that:

“Matt Doherty is the worst football player in the world, pass it on”

“Doherty appears to be wearing roller skates tonight.”
“There is nothing on this earth that will convince me that Matt Doherty or Lucas Moura deserve to be professional footballers”
“Not sure I ever want to see Doherty in a spurs shirt again.”
“Let’s just say I have been… unimpressed with Doherty’s crossing at Spurs.”
“Doherty is not a footballer. This has to be an over-elaborate practical joke gone too far. Has to.”
“Doherty and Davies are useless”
“Matt Doherty has the level for League One.”

Is Doherty good enough for Spurs?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Given that he’s in competition with Serge Aurier for that starting right-back spot, he certainly isn’t doing himself any favours in staying in the first-team with his display.
