Many Celtic fans have been talking about the comments that John Barnes has recently made about the club’s central defender Shane Duffy.

In a recent interview, (via the Daily Record) Barnes gave his opinion about Duffy and his time at Parkhead so far. He believes that the Irishman has ‘played well’ and hasn’t had a tough time adapting to the new surroundings in Scotland. He feels that since Celtic have lost some matches, people find it easy to blame the ‘new boy’ at the club.

Barnes also believes that Duffy is a ‘good’ player and once he finds some consistency at Celtic, he will end up becoming an ‘important’ player for the Bhoys (as per the Daily Record).

Duffy has picked up weak ratings in the club’s games against Milan, Aberdeen, Lille, Sparta Prague and Motherwell (as per Whoscored).

After Barnes’ comments regarding the 28-year-old Irish central defender emerged, in which he aired his belief that Duffy has not been unimpressive so far this term, Celtic fans continued to take that sentiment poorly.

Some Celtic fans are clearly not happy with Barnes’ assessment of Duffy’s time at Parkhead so far and they are mocking the former Celtic boss, too.

While Duffy’s performances in the last few games have been disappointing, he has picked up an overall rating of 7.25 in the Premiership this season. As a result, he has been the club’s fifth-best player in the league season (as per WhoScored).

Because of that, it is understandable why Barnes believes that Duffy has ‘played well’ at Celtic but going by his recent performances, the Irishman needs to improve soon.
