Many Leeds United supporters have flocked to a recent tweet from the club in which they announced that memberships for the 2020/21 campaign would be available to new applicants from this week.
The Whites won the Championship last season and subsequently earned themselves a place back in the Premier League for the first time in 16 years. Described by the club’s website as ‘the next best thing to being a Leeds United season ticket holder’, the membership package provides those who sign up with a number of benefits including a gift pack and a variety of discounts.
Here is how a sample of the Elland Road faithful have responded via the social media platform.
Making it even harder to get a ticket for those who regularly attended in previous seasons ? #lufc

Really disappointed with this. We were already over subscribed last season and you’re making the situation worse. Not really rewarding fans who have bought one for years for their loyalty are you.

Are you disappointed by this announcement regarding the club's membership scheme
Yes
No
It’s clear from the above tweets that many of these supporters haven’t responded well to the news that the membership scheme will now be open to new applicants. They continued to make their feelings known in the responses.
All aboard the plastics

This is a joke, backed the club throughout the championship campaigns and now you are making it impossible for us loyals to get tickets! Here come the plastics!!

Not happy with this at all.

This is poor really. It’s been hard enough to get tickets over the last few years as a Gold member anyway, let alone making them available for new applicants. You should have this as a waiting list too as what was the point in allowing a window for Gold members to renew? #LUFC https://t.co/SMExjZrH60

Thought the club said no new applicants.

What was the point in a renewal deadline for existing members and surely existing members should get priority over new members?

The more members on board, the more people there will be trying to secure the tickets that are available to those on the membership scheme, therefore, you can understand why some of these fans are disappointed. With Leeds set to compete in the Premier League next season, in our view, there is likely to be more interest in tickets and so it appears the club have seen this as an opportunity to potentially generate some extra revenue.
