Many Celtic fans have been discussing the latest news update involving Lee O’Connor that recently emerged on social media.
It has now been confirmed that the Celtic youngster has joined League Two side Tranmere Rovers on loan till the end of the 2020/21 season.
This news update caught the attention of many Celtic fans, who made their opinion clear about the young defender. One of them seemed positive about this news and had words of praise for O’Connor, while others were slightly more negative about the move.
What does it say abt Player development when James Forrest, 29, is Player on, ” #Celtic Pools Support Youth Development”. In last 10 yrs we’ve had JF, Calmac, KT. Isn’t it sad indictment of a Club that 6 yrs ago portrayed itself as one that brings on young players. @Moravcik67_

Does O'Connor have a future at Celtic?
I don't think so
Yes, he'll get a chance in the first-team next season
Would rather he went to the scottish championship to learn his trade than down there

Celtic had signed O’Connor from Premier League giants Manchester United in the summer of 2019. He had spent the second half of the 2019/20 season on loan at Partick Thistle (as per Transfermarkt).
The defender has already made his debut for the Republic of Ireland senior national team, as he featured in a friendly against New Zealand last year (as per Transfermarkt).
Some other Celtic fans also made their opinion clear about O’Connor’s loan move.
I’m really surprised that he hasn’t been given a shot in pre-season games given our lack of depth

He’s part of the Ireland’s first team how can he not get into the Celtic squad

A real talent for the future, was highly rated at Man U until we nabbed him last year. CalMac really pushed on after a loan in League 2, here’s hoping this bhoy can the same. ?

There are a variety of opinions about O’Connor and his move to Tranmere. The young defender is yet to make a single appearance for the Hoops in the club’s first-team, but he did make five appearances in all competitions for the Partick Thistle first-team (as per Transfermarkt).
The fact that the 20-year-old has already made his debut for the Republic of Ireland national team is a big positive and if his stint at Tranmere goes well, it will be interesting to see whether he gets a chance in the Celtic first-team. The target for him now should be to impress during his loan spell at the League Two club.
