The Athletic’s Tim Spiers has provided an injury update on Wolverhampton Wanderers defender Jonny Castro Otto.
Jonny was substituted off in the Old Gold’s 1-0 victory over Olympiacos in the Europa League after he sustained a knee injury (per Sky Sports).
It was later revealed by the club that it was an anterior cruciate ligament injury which would require ‘surgical repair’ to fix.
Last week, the Express and Star then reported that the player was ‘on the mend’ after ‘successful surgery on his right knee’.
So, in the latest episode of The Athletic’s The Molineux View podcast, Spiers discussed the Spaniard’s injury and provided an update.
He said: “I think for the grade of injury that he’s got, about six months sounds about right, but that’s the initial prognosis.
“Obviously, post-surgery it can all change again.
“I would say [he’ll be out for] between six and nine [months], but they’ll hope for six.”
TIF Thoughts…
As can be seen in what Spiers had to say, the initial prognosis has suggested that Jonny will be sidelined for six months, however, that could have changed following his surgery.
Do Wolves need to sign a new left-sided wing-back this summer due to Jonny's injury?
No, it's not necessary
Yes, we need cover
The 26-year-old defender will likely be missed by Nuno Espirito Santo while he returns to full fitness as he was the Old Gold’s eighth-best performer in the league during the 2019/20 season (per WhoScored).
Furthermore, Jonny made the joint-most tackles per league match in the squad alongside Willy Boly with 2.6, he also made the joint-third-most interceptions per game alongside Ruben Neves with 1.5.
So, it is clear that the Spaniard is a talented defensive player for the Old Gold, which would certainly suggest that he will be missed while he recovers.
