Many Leeds United fans have flocked to a recent Twitter post from the club in which they shared some footage of the goal Sheffield United saw ruled out at Aston Villa on Wednesday evening despite the ball clearly crossing the line. They captioned it: FAO: @AVFCOfficial #FairPlay.

The post made reference to the incident that took place in April 2019 at Elland Road when Marcelo Bielsa instructed his players to allow Aston Villa to walk the ball into the net after they had opened the scoring through Mateusz Klich when one of Dean Smith’s players was seemingly down injured (as per Sky News).

Nice easy one to start. Who is this current Leeds man?

The Premier League resumed on Wednesday evening and Sheffield United should have been awarded a goal in the first-half after Ørjan Nyland clearly carried the ball over the line. The goal-line technology failed and Hawk-Eye have subsequently apologised but having seen the replays at half-time, should Aston Villa have allowed the visitors to score similarly in the way Leeds allowed them to last season? Here is how some of the Elland Road faithful have responded to the post.

Should Aston Villa have allowed Sheffield United to score?

It’s clear from the above responses that these supporters enjoyed the post. Aston Villa currently find themselves involved in a relegation battle and that draw ended a run of four successive defeats for Dean Smith’s side. Survival will no doubt be their priority but you can understand why some have been left disappointed by the fact they’re not willing to practice what they preach.

Having been criticised for scoring that controversial goal at Elland Road more than a year ago now, Leeds United were never going to let the incident which took place at Villa Park be swept under the carpet without criticising the club.
