Dembele was at Celtic for two years, from 2016 to the summer of 2018. During his time at Parkhead, the Frenchman made 94 appearances in all competitions and scored 51 goals, while racking up 18 assists (via Transfermarkt).
The striker had left the club for Lyon in the summer of 2018, joining the Ligue 1 side for a fee of £19.7 million (via BBC Sport).
What do we think?
Dembele’s goalscoring exploits at Parkhead are one reason why Celtic fans love him. But the gesture he’s done is certainly a noble one. Dembele is of Malian origin and this act is a way of him going back to his roots to help those in need. In these tough times, this is certainly a gesture worth lauding.
