Some West Brom fans have taken to Twitter to share their admiration for Dwight Gayle in response to a recent post from West Brom-focused Twitter account @Baggiesanalytic, which shares some footage of the 29-year-old attacker from his time at West Brom.
Gayle joined West Brom on a season-long loan from Newcastle United in August 2018, as part of an exchange with the Magpies which saw Salomon Rondon head in the opposite direction, according to the BBC.
Despite scoring 23 goals and making eight assists for the Baggies in the Championship last season, West Brom ultimately didn’t sign Gayle on a permanent deal, with the 29-year-old forward heading back to Newcastle United in the summer of 2019.
Some West Brom fans have reacted positively to the footage that was recently shared by @Baggiesanalytic looking back at Gayle’s season with the club. Read the posts from some West Brom fans praising Gayle for his impressive attacking performances during the 2018/19 season in the tweets below.

I can think of 3 better goals last season but he was really good for us. No debate there.

What do we think?
Gayle has enjoyed less game time with the Magpies this season than he did with West Brom during the 2018/19 campaign, accumulating a total of just 377 minutes for the Magpies in the Premier League this season. According to WhoScored.com, 21 Newcastle players have accumulated a higher number of Premier League minutes than Gayle this season, while only six West Brom players accumulated a higher total of Championship minutes than Gayle did during the 2018/19 campaign.
According to a recent report from birminghammail.co.uk, Baggies manager Slaven Bilic stated that West Brom tried to bring Gayle back to the club “in the summer”, however, the Croatian manager went on to state that “it was impossible”. Meanwhile, back in May 2019, Baggies technical director Luke Dowling told the BBC that Gayle wouldn’t be brought back to the club because his “contract is a Premier League contract”.
While it may have proved financially impossible for the Baggies to bring Gayle back to the club in the summer of 2019 due to his contract being “a Premier League contract”, the Baggies may see themselves become a Premier League club next season, should the Championship’s second-placed side achieve promotion to the top-flight for next season. Considering his impressive performances during the 2018/19 campaign, some West Brom fans may welcome the 29-year-old back, should West Brom make a move for the £10.8m-valued man in the summer.
