Some Celtic fans have recently been talking about the latest tweet that Chris Sutton sent out about Chelsea youngster Billy Gilmour.
The midfielder was called up to Scotland’s Under-21s side, having played in the last two first-team games under Frank Lampard. BBC Sport has reported that while he has been selected for the U21s side, he could still be included in the nation’s senior squad for the Euro 2020 play-offs.
Does Gilmour deserve a call-up to Scotland national team?
Of course he does
Its too early
Sutton tweeted about this, congratulating the midfielder’s U21 call-up. This got many Celtic fans talking.

Does 2 good games merit a Scotland 1st team call up?

The lad is on top form…him sitting deep letting McGinn and McGregor drive the team with forest and Fraser our wide, griff up front. Time we pick players in form and confident than ‘established’ ones

Absolute joke!

Madness Chris. Absolutely no harm having him in and around the squad and at the very least some minutes against Israel. This country never disappoints though. Ever.

Would have liked to see him called up to the full squad, not a starter as midfield is the strongest part of the team, but the lad is far to good for the under 21’s

Don’t drop anyone get him on the squad get him familiar with the players and set up then if someone gets injured or he’s trained better than anyone stick him in

What do we think?
Gilmour earned a WhoScored rating of 7.03 against Everton and racked up a rating of 7.3 in the FA Cup game against Liverpool.
While it shows that the performances were good, two games are too small a sample size to judge a player. Selecting him for the senior side might have been a case of rushing him into the team, in that sense. If he keeps playing well in the next few games for Chelsea, a senior call-up from Scotland might not be too far away.
