Some Celtic fans have been discussing the latest developments in the club’s current dispute with Sky.

The Hoops have called out Sky once again for issuing an ‘inadequate‘ explanation for their apparent mistranslation of Morelos’ quotes. Celtic have released their complaint to the broadcasting regulator Ofcom on their official website as they seek answers from Sky about the issue.

Are Celtic right to issue another statement?

When the Bhoys’ social media team posted the statement on Twitter, the fans were buzzing. They were delighted to see the club take the matter so seriously.

Recently, Rangers star Morelos had given an interview to Sky Sports in Spanish which saw him talk about being racially abused. It was later alleged that Morelos didn’t mention being racially abused by Celtic fans, despite the Sky Sports translation of the interview made it seem so.

After the interview, Celtic released a statement accusing Sky of mistranslating what Morelos said. They said that the subtitles of the video had inconsistencies when Morelos hadn’t exactly used the words that were broadcast on-screen.

Sky then released a statement about the case and apologised to Celtic, Rangers and Morelos for the error. They even published a full transcript of the interview to clarify their point, calling their mistranslation a ‘serious error’.

What do we think?

Celtic are right to ask for more from Sky in this issue. The latest statement has a crucial point about who was responsible for the mistranslation and that is an important part of this case. Given the nature of Morelos’ alleged comments, it is a serious issue that leaves the club little choice but to further highlight Sky’s supposed inaccuracies.
