Yesterday Rangers’ Academy side played against Partick Thistle in the Glasgow Cup. Despite conceding in the first minute of the match, the young bears came back to win 2-1. A second-half brace from Josh McPake was enough to see the side finish the match as winners.

McPake has just returned to Rangers’ Academy after being out on loan with Dundee United. Unfortunately for the player, he only made three starts for Dundee during his time with the club and has returned to Rangers where he will undoubtedly be looking to earn a spot in Steven Gerrard’s senior squad. But while his loan didn’t work out as well as Rangers and McPake would have hoped, he is back with the Glaswegian side and clearly making an impact for the club’s academy.

When the academy’s Twitter posted the news of McPake’s brace, many fans were eager to see the player join the senior squad. They praised his efforts and are excited by his prospects.

What do we think?

At just 18 years of age, one unsuccessful loan spell shouldn’t deter McPake from pushing on and having a successful career. His performance against Partick Thistle yesterday should be a sign that he has bounced back in expert fashion. If he continues to smash goals in for the academy, he could soon be featuring for the first-team under Gerrard. Kai Kennedy and Nathan Patterson both made their first senior appearances for the club last week against Stranraer, so it is only a matter of time before McPake makes his.
