Some Celtic fans have been left fuming at some of the comments Davie Provan has made about the club’s owner Peter Lawwell when it comes to his earnings from the Hoops.
Provan has called out Lawwell for his salary and has criticised him for earning about seven times more than the Governor of the Bank of England. In Provan’s latest column for The Sun, he has slammed Lawwell for not managing the funds at the club well, despite having sold a prized asset in Kieran Tierney to Arsenal.
Celtic fans: Are you happy with Lawwell's running of the club?
He cares about money only
He deserves respect
And Provan’s comments have left many Hoops fans fuming. They don’t like what Lawwell is doing to the club and the finances.
It’s a nonsense. Bordering on obscene amount for a CEO. In any league.

His earnings are extraordinary and for every penny he makes or earns we lose it on the park …..4m per annum equivalent is obscene and unnecessary. Equally , his terms and conditions are clearly being met to earn such vast sums and he doesn’t make the rules and so no different

He’s got the easiest job in football sickening to see every pound spent at CP or shop that PL is getting a cut , not right

His salary minus any bonus is obscene

Lawwell carries out the wishes of the board and DD. If he didn’t he wouldn’t be in his position. Simple really.

So far this season, the Hoops have done well in every single possible competition that they are in. In the Premiership, they have been at the top of the Premiership so far, despite their recent loss to Rangers in the Old Firm Derby. They are still two points clear of them but if the Gers win their game in hand, they will go to the top of the table (BBC).
The Hoops have already made it to the next round of the UEFA Europa League, as they finished top of their group and beat Lazio twice. But they couldn’t go unbeaten, as they lost to Cluj in the final game. But for the first time in history, they finished top of the group (BBC).
They have already won the League Cup and beat Rangers in the final of the competition. A Christopher Jullien goal in the second half helped them win their 19th League Cup title.
What do we think?
It isn’t fair to compare Lawwell’s earnings to that of the Bank of England governor. It would be a fairer comparison if he was compared to someone like himself. Having said that, the Hoops have yielded a huge number of titles under his ownership and he deserves credit for that.
