Some Luton Town fans are hailing the impact of their midfielder George Moncur in the club’s recent 2-1 win over Wigan Athletic in the Championship at the weekend.

In what was an entertaining game at the Kenilworth Road, Kieffer Moore had scored in the first-half for the Latics. Callum McManaman did score to make it 1-1 in the second half, but Wigan saw Chey Dunkley get sent off in stoppage time. Two minutes later, Moncur came up with a last-ditch winner for the Hatters (BBC).

Moncur’s celebration caught the eyes of many fans. He took off his shirt and celebration in ecstatic fashion. This has left many Luton fans raving about the 26-year-old midfielder.

The midfielder has not exactly been a regular for Luton this season. He has played seven times in all competitions this season, finding the back of the net once. That goal came against Wigan at the weekend.

He joined the club from League One side Barnsley this past summer, where he had played first-half of the previous season. He had contributed to a total of seven goals in that campaign for Barnsley, but he had contributed to six goals in the second half of the season for the Hatters.

He had arrived at Luton for an undisclosed fee, signing a deal of two and a half years at the club (BBC).

At Barnsley, Moncur had played 78 times in all competitions for the club. He racked up a tally of nine goals and a total of 12 assists as well. He is a product of the West Ham youth academy and has also plied his trade with Colchester United, Wimbledon, Peterborough and Partick Thistle as well.

What do we think?

Moncur’s goal could prove to be a critical one in the race for survival in the Championship. Luton are now 20th in the league, with Wigan now third-bottom ahead of Stoke City and Barnsley themselves.

Moncur’s goal means that he will be full of confidence. And he should start the club’s next Championship game against fellow relegation fighters Stoke.
