Some Celtic fans are angry that striker Odsonne Edouard didn’t take the penalty for the club in their defeat on Sunday.

The Hoops risked their position at the top of the table because of the defeat to the Gers. The 2-1 defeat saw Ryan Kent score first for Rangers, but the Hoops hit back through Edouard. A second-half goal from Nikola Katic won Rangers the game.

The Kent goal had come minutes after Ryan Christie had missed a penalty. That proved to be a huge watershed moment in the game.

Celtic fans: Should Edouard have taken the penalty?

Some Hoops fans are sure that Edouard would have scored the penalty and he should have taken it.

Christie did miss the penalty and minutes later, Rangers scored. But so far this season, the Scotland international has played 33 times in all competitions for the Hoops. He has scored 17 times in all competitions and also has a tally of 13 assists. In the Premiership, he has scored ten times and has eight assists to his name.

As for Edouard, he has been in impressive form for the club this season. He has played 31 times in all competitions for the Bhoys. He has scored 16 times in all competitions, racking up 15 assists. The goal against Rangers was his 12th goal of the campaign.

Last season too was a very good season for Edouard. He played 52 times in all competitions, scoring as many as 22 goals and has eight assists to his name.

What do we think?

It is now easy to say Edouard would have scored the penalty. There is no guarantee that he would have scored. In his career, Edouard has scored only six penalty goals– two of them came in the Scottish Cup last season.
