Some Liverpool fans have been slamming defender Joe Gomez on Twitter after his poor performance in their 1-1 draw with Napoli on Wednesday.
This comes after Liverpool journalist James Pearce shared a post on his official page criticising Gomez’s performance saying the Englishman looks “short of confidence”.
Pearce’s post then gathered many replies from Liverpool fans who shared the same opinions on Gomez.
Here’s a sample of Liverpool fans slating Gomez for his performance on Wednesday:
Can see him leaving in the summer

get rid of him, bring in fresh face

Gomez should never play right back ever again. Idk what Klopp was thinking when he dropped Trent, who’s so much better attacking-wise and is only SLIGHTLY worse defensively.

He literally just dropped. 2/3 out of 10. Feel for him. Was flying before his injury last season

Lost confidence big time

The 22-year-old played in the right-back position in the 1-1 draw, a position he doesn’t usually play in.
Gomez’s erratic display against Carlo Ancelotti’s side struck the attention of some Liverpool fans who were quick to share their frustrations with the defender.
Should Joe Gomez play at right-back again?
Yes
No
Gone backwards unfortunately. Ability is there but the concentration isn’t.

Poor every game I’ve watched him this season

Said that so many times, his awareness of space is awful

What do we think?
Playing Gomez out of position in an important game when he is low on confidence and not in form was a poor choice by Klopp. His performance in the match showed how uncomfortable he was playing in the full-back position, as he achieved the second lowest rating of any Liverpool player (6.3).
If Gomez, who is valued at £31.5 million (as per Transfermarkt), wants to regain his confidence and form, he will need to play a run of games in his usual position alongside Virgil van Dijk, but that doesn’t look likely as Dejan Lovren has been hugely impressive in recent times.
