Many Leeds United fans were confused when Blackburn Rovers defender Derrick Williams said: “We’re very frustrated because we felt Leeds were there for the taking” while talking to iFollow Rovers.
An article was later tweeted out by Leeds United News which used many of the Rovers defender’s quotes. Leeds had 67.8% possession and 11 more shots than Blackburn, so it’s difficult to see where they ‘were there for the taking’.
The 26-year-old also commented on the penalty decision, which he feels was unfairly given: “We felt comfortable at the start and we’re just disappointed by the penalty decision given against us. I thought Tosin [Adarabioyo] got a touch of the ball and even the Leeds player didn’t think it was a penalty. It’s frustrating when things like that go against you.”

With 30% possession and one shot on target? Leeds were lucky to have survived that onslaught!

What might have been is 6-1

The stats don’t back up Willams’ claims, with the only positive stat that Blackburn outperformed Leeds in was corners, but even that was just one more. So it’s easy to see why these fans are so confused.
Yep, there for the taking alright!?! pic.twitter.com/BtgSQ2qAE4

This explains why @Rovers are where they are when a player comes away from that match thinking we were there for the taking that’s the brain capacity they are operating with pic.twitter.com/cwaBoUonZ0

What Do We Think?
Obviously, with these player statements, you can never take them too seriously, as it’s hard to know what they might have been told to say and what they actually believe. However, when you take Williams’ comments at face value, he doesn’t really have any facts to back his words.
