Some Celtic fans are in glee after a video of former striker Moussa Dembele scoring a hat-trick against their arch-rivals emerged on social media.

The Frenchman is currently at French club Lyon, the club he joined in the summer of 2018 for a fee of £19.7 million. Since then, the former Paris Saint-Germain has been replaced by another former Parisiens star in Odsonne Edouard.

In September 2016, Celtic had picked up an impressive 5-1 win over Rangers and it was Dembele who had notched up a hat-trick at Parkhead. No one has accomplished something like that since that very day.

A video about that game went viral on social media and Celtic fans are full of praise for Dembele.

Dembele had joined Celtic from the then Championship side Fulham in the summer of 2016. During his whole time at Celtic, he had managed to score 51 goals and had racked up a tally of 18 assists in a total of 94 appearances.

In his last season at the club, Dembele had enjoyed an impressive campaign. He had played 39 times in all competitions, scoring 16 times and had an impressive tally of nine assists as well.

Since joining Lyon, he has been a regular for the French side. In total, he has played 63 times for the Ligue 1 side, finding the back of the net 30 times and racking up six assists as well.

What do we think?

Dembele’s stint at Celtic established him as one of the best goalscorers for the club in the current decade. Where he is in his career can be down to Celtic, who gave the Frenchman the striker to play regularly at the top level and mature. And at Lyon, he took off from exactly where he had left at Parkhead.

In his first season for the club, he appeared 52 times in all competitions for Lyon. He scored as many as 23 times. It is a huge positive sign that Celtic had a big role to play in his development.
