Everton: David Moyes could be appointed as the Toffees’ new boss on one condition

David Moyes could be set to be appointed as the Toffees’ new boss on one condition, according to the Mirror.

On Monday night, the national news outlet revealed that Marco Silva is retaining his job by the smallest of margins, due to the club’s owner being unsure on who should replace him (as per The Mirror).

However, the owner is keen on Moyes and it looks likely that the Scot could be appointed on one condition should no better alternatives transpire quickly.

A number of managerial maybes

Following the woeful defeat to Norwich City on Saturday, a number of potential new managers have been linked with a move to the club.

Alongside the former Everton boss, Moyes, Eddie Howe, Mikel Arteta and Mark Hughes have all been linked with the potentially vacant hot seat (as per Liverpool Echo).

However, Moshiri does not want to make a knee-jerk decision, the like of which saw Sam Allardyce arrive as the club’s manager following Ronald Koeman’s sacking (as per the Mirror), so will bide his time.

TiF Tactics – Who is the best of the four options?

Following his woeful previous spell in charge of Southampton (as per BBC), Hughes falls the shortest of the four linked names.

Having not boasted a successful managerial stint since his time at Goodison Park, Moyes must be considered as the third best option of the four – despite the club’s hierarchy looking favourably upon him for the role.

The 56-year-old Scotsman has been sacked by Manchester United, Real Sociedad, Sunderland and West Ham in the six years since leaving Merseyside (per Transfermarkt), so his once unquestionable managerial talents are now debatable.

Arteta and Howe both present viable options which would bring positive long-term change to the club, which is what the Toffees are in desperate need of.

However, the Spaniard just pips the Cherries’ gaffer to the post on this one – yes, he is inexperienced in management but he is in the best possible stead.

Three-and-a-half years working under, arguably, the world’s best in Pep Guardiola, an affiliation with Everton supporters and the capability to put in place a long-term vision and implement it.

With the former midfielder linked with a move to Arsenal to replace Unai Emery (as per The Mirror), it may be difficult to tempt him to Merseyside – but he represents a much more sensible option for the Toffees than Moyes on a short-term contract.

As stated in the report on what Moshiri is thinking, Moyes may be the only viable option, and if the club has to wait until next summer to get the Spaniard from Man City (per The Times) – then that may represent the only case where a return for the Scot is a good move.
