Celtic: Some fans can’t wait to see Leigh Griffiths back in the first-team

Some Celtic fans can’t wait to see striker Leigh Griffiths back in the club’s first-team after an impressive performance for the Reserves’ side recently.

The game against Lennoxtown for the Hoops’ Reserves side saw them pick up an impressive 6-0 win. Griffiths bagged a brace on his return to action, while young Liam Burt notched up a hat-trick of his own.

This was Griffiths’ first piece of action for any of the club’s sides since his Scottish Premiership appearance against Hearts back in August (per TransferMarkt).

Some Celtic fans are excited at the prospect of the brace and want him to be back for the first-team as soon as possible.

The 29-year-old has been at the club since January 2014 when he arrived from Wolverhampton Wanderers for a fee of £1million. Since then, he has become an icon for the club.

So far this season, he has played eight times in all competitions for the Parkhead side. He has already scored three goals during this time.

Since joining though, the Scotsman has played 211 times in all competitions for the Hoops. During this time, he has managed to find the back of the net 107 times and has bagged a tally of 46 assists too.

Griffiths, who is valued at £1.8 million (Transfermarkt), has been out since the Hearts game and had been nursing a hamstring injury prior to the outing for the reserve side.

Some fans want to see Griffiths in the squad for Celtic’s upcoming Premiership game against Livingston at home.

At the turn of 2019, Griffiths had taken a break from football. He later revealed that he did so because of mental health issues but returned to action at the beginning of the current season.

What do we think?

Celtic might be top of the league – ahead of Rangers only on goal difference – but they currently have only one out and out striker in the side, being Odsonne Edouard. Other than that, Lennon’s men are currently short in that department unless they get in some recruitments in the January transfer window.

But a fit and scoring Griffiths would be huge for the club. He adds quality depth and would add so much more goals to the side.
