Some Aston Villa fans have been calling for the club to sign Brentford winger Ollie Watkins in the upcoming January transfer window.
This comes off the back of a tweet shared by Villa fan account @TheVillaVision, who asked their followers if they would like to see the winger at the club in January.
Interestingly, the Villans were reportedly interested in signing Ollie Watkins prior to his move to Brentford.
This tweet gathered a lot of positive replies from Villa fans saying they think Watkins would be a good addition to the squad.
Here’s a sample of Villa showing their interest in Watkins:
Yes. Watched him a few times this season. Would be great on his own or a phenomenal partner to Wes. Always in the right place, powerful and good aerially

Definitely! Would be him or Morelos for me. Both will be hard to land though.

Yes, good player and can play on the wing too

The 23-year-old already has experience playing under current Villa manager Dean Smith when he was in charge of Brentford. Indeed, the Villa boss brought the Englishman to Griffin Park.
Watkins is having a fantastic season at Brentford so far, in 14 League appearances he has scored 10 goals from predominantly the left-wing position, putting him in second place in the Championship’s top scorers list.
A potential reunion with the winger and his former manager has got some Villa fans excited.
Fits the model and system

What do we think?
While Watkins is certainly having a fantastic start to the season in the Championship with Brentford, would a move to Villa in January be beneficial to the player or the club? If we compare Watkins’ attacking stats this season to current Villa winger Trezeguet, Watkins has a significantly higher shots-per-game average than the Egyptian winger. In 14 Championship appearances, Watkins has recorded a 3.1 shots per game average compared to Trezeguet’s 1.8 in 13 appearances in all competition (per WhoScored), so you could say he would be a more attacking addition.
