Ajer only scratching the surface

Celtic defender Kristoffer Ajer clearly already has a fan in the form of John Hartson but the centre-back is surely set to get even better.

The Celtic legend shared that he was surprised that Ajer wasn’t in the running for the PFA Young Player of the Year award as he had been outstanding since the start of 2019.

“And mentioning Ajer, I am surprised he wasn’t at least in the running for the PFA Young Player of the Year award,” wrote Hartson in the Evening Times.

“He has been outstanding since the turn of the year and is a huge prospect.”

While Ajer has clearly already made Hartson’s jaw drop by putting in some fantastic displays, as the Hoops legend doesn’t tend to throw around the word outstanding that often, he surely will make it drop further in the coming seasons.

The 21-year-old keeps going from strength to strength at the Hoops and learning from his experience, so it’s clear he is only scratching the surface when it comes to showcasing his full potential.

Ajer had an impressive 2017/18 campaign where he featured 34 times across all competitions, yet in his 2018/19 season he has looked a level above the player he was, especially in recent games.

The 21-year-old centre-back has continued to be strong in the air and strong in the challenge but now his passing looks better than before and he seems way more comfortable with the ball at his feet if that was possible.

Given the how rapidly he has improved and the fact he is still only 21-years-old, then clearly there is way more from him to come.

So with that in mind, Hartson should brace himself to be further taken back by the talents of Ajer as you feel the world is his oyster.
