Mauricio Pochettino has green-lighted the sale of young Tottenham defender Cameron Carter-Vickers, according to Football Insider.

The 21-year-old centre-back has completed a season-long loan at Swansea but FI claim that the youngster is not a part of Pochettino’s future plans.

Carter-Vickers struggled to get into the Swansea team at the start of the season but ended up making 21 starts in 28 Championship appearances.

The report claims Tottenham have set a price of £5million for the player who has come up through the youth ranks at Spurs.

OPINION

This will come as a blow to Carter-Vickers who would have been hoping to use his latest loan move to prove that he’s worth a shot at Tottenham. However, that hasn’t worked out for him and it might well be that he’s found his current level – and the £5million price tag would seem to hint at a Championship move. After his successful second-half of the season with Swansea he shouldn’t have any problems finding a side who wants him at that price – one of the failed play-off teams could afford the fee and could well be on the lookout for a good young defender. Carter-Vickers is a full USA international and there will still be hope that he can develop and live up to the expectations that Pochettino had for him. That won’t be at Tottenham, though, despite the future of Toby Alderweireld being in doubt, and youngster Juan Foyth being preferred at right-back by the Spurs manager.
