Tottenham winger Erik Lamela is among the squad travelling from north London to the Netherlands ahead of the club’s Champions League clash against Ajax on Wednesday.

The Lilywhites posted a video on their official Twitter account of the players heading onto the plane to jet over to Amsterdam for their second leg on their semi-final tie, the Dutch giants winning 1-0 in England last week, and Argentine attacker Lamela was among those pictured.

The wide man has been missing from Mauricio Pochettino’s squads for two months now, his last appearance coming in the 1-0 win away at Borussia Dortmund back at the start of March.

Opinion

It remains to be seen whether Lamela will be included in the match day squad for their crunch clash against Ajax but at least it shows he is closing in on a comeback, even if the season is coming to a close in the next couple of weeks. His dynamism and aggressive nature has been a sore miss for Pochettino, who could definitely have done with his spiky nature when trying to secure victory both in the Premier League and on the European stage. He is the sort of player who can win you fouls and defend from the front, while having an attacking cutting edge to make something happen out of nothing. It would be seriously risky to throw him in the starting XI after such a long time out but that does not mean that he will not be included among the substitutes who could make a difference from the bench. It remains to be seen whether he gets any game time at all, but it is certain he is jetting over the Amsterdam with the rest of the squad.
