Leeds United midfielder Alfie McCalmont went off injured during the Whites’ U-23 clash with Birmingham City on Monday.

The 19-year-old appeared to suffer a knock during the 87th minute of the Whites’ U-23s clash with Birmingham and it was enough to see him brought off in order to be replaced by Hugo Diaz.

Phil Hay of the Yorkshire Evening Post reported, via his personal Twitter account, that it was an injury that caused McCalmont to leave the field, however his teammates managed to succeed without him as the Whites overcame Birmingham City 4-2 on penalties.

OPINION

McCalmont has been starting to impress for the U-23s in recent weeks and it would be a shame if his season ended on a sour note. However the extent of his injury is not yet known, but you do think it will at least cause him sometime in the medical room as it was enough to see him subbed.  This is especially the case when you consider that Leeds’ clash with Birmingham was the PDL-National Final and that the Whites would have wanted their best players on the pitch in order to give them the best chance of succeeding. Hopefully Leeds’ U-23s success isn’t the only good news Whites supporters will get in the coming weeks as the entire fanbase will be hoping Marcelo Bielsa’s is able to successfully navigate the senior side through the Championship play-offs. Winning the play-offs will be no easy task and the Whites will have to be on top-form in order to be playing in the Premier League next season. Leeds have suffered some disappointing results as of late, but hopefully they won’t affect the club’s belief.
