Jack Clarke heaped praise on his Leeds United teammate Jamie Shackleton after the 1-0 win v Derby County on Saturday.

Shackleton had taken to his personal Instagram after the win against Frank Lampard’s side in order to look ahead to the second-leg of their Championship play-off semi final on Wednesday.

“On to Wednesday,” wrote the 19-year-old.

Clarke then responded to Shackleton’s short social media post via his Instagram account to dub his teammate a special player, with him even using the applause and starstruck emoji to highlight his point.

“Special player,” wrote the 18-year-old.

OPINION

If there is one player worthy of praise after the win against Derby it’s Shackleton. The teenager replaced Adam Forshaw in the 24th minute of Leeds’ Championship semi-final play-off clash with Derby on Saturday and didn’t let the occasion get to him. The central midfielder put in a performance that oozed class and suggested that he had more experience then he had. While Shackleton has featured quite a lot this season, he’s made 22 appearances, he played like a grizzled veteran. Marcelo Bielsa will likely opt to start the teen against Derby on Wednesday as a result and Leeds fans will be hoping his good form wasn’t just a one-off. Shackleton clearly has a bright future at Elland Road but maybe it’s time more sat up and took notice of him sooner rather than later. Also aside from the fact it’s nice to hear Shackleton get praise from his teammate in the form of Clarke, it is also a good reflection of how high team spirit is among the current squad.
