The present is exciting enough at Leeds United at the moment, but hopes of a bright future were further increased as it emerged at the weekend that rising-star forward Niall Huggins has been offered a professional contract by the club. Ian Harte, the Leeds legend who is now an agent representing a number of the club’s rising stars, revealed his “delight” on his personal Twitter account that Huggins, 18, is set to extend his stay at the club.

This has gone down very well with Leeds fans, who like nothing more than an academy player making the grade at the club. The York-born teenager, who is predominantly a left winger, currently has scholarship terms at the Championship club that run until the summer of 2019, and has been an integral member of the club’s Under-18s side that has performed so well this season. News that he is set to join the likes of home-grown youngsters Jack Clarke and Jamie Shackleton in getting a pro deal has delighted many, with comments including “brilliant news” and “we’ll see you in the first team”.
