Celtic winger Maryan Shved has avoided any serious injury after fears he would be ruled out for the season, loan side Karpaty Lviv have confirmed.

The 21-year-old joined the Hoops over the January transfer window and was immediately shipped back on loan to his former club to see out the rest of the season, although there were major worries he would be ruled out until summer due to a muscle injury, manager Fabri Gomez quoted by the Scottish Sun as saying it was a “bad injury.”

However, the Scottish Sun have relayed an official statement from the Ukrainian side which says: “Maryan has returned to training with us after the scans showed there was no tear. He is a doubt for the weekend game, but should be back playing soon.”

Opinion

It is one thing to be injured at your parent side but another situation entirely to be sidelined when out on loan. Admittedly Shved does not have any experience of playing at Parkhead and so it is almost like he is not yet a Celtic player, but with a chance to prove himself to the Hoops over the summer he would not have been wanting to be suffering with a serious injury blow. It sounds as though he has escaped any sort of setback which will keep him out of action for the foreseeable future and that is good news for the player, his current club and Celtic too, who will no doubt be itching to get a sight of what he can bring to the squad when he eventually joins up in summer. His focus should be on impressing in the final months of the season in Ukraine before swapping his surroundings for Glasgow and the better he performs now, the more chance he has of forcing his way into the setup at Parkhead over summer.
