Celtic winger Maryan Shved could be out for the rest of the season, according to the Scottish Sun

The 21-year-old winger was bought in January and loaned back to Karpaty Lviv for the rest of the season, but now Celtic are sweating on his fitness after he tore a thigh muscle.

The injury reportedly happened in training and manager Fabri Gonzalez said: “Maryan suffered a bad injury when he tore an abductor muscle in his thigh.

“He is one of our best players and his absence certainly made it far harder for us against Shakhtar.”

Shved missed the weekend game against Shakhtar Donetsk as his side were thrashed 5-0.

OPINION

Shved hasn’t had a great time of it since his move to Celtic. It started badly enough, with then manager Brendan Rodgers saying he didn’t know much about the transfer and that it was probably one for the future. Way to make your new player feel welcome, Brendan! Shved would probably have been quite pleased when Rodgers left Celtic to hook up with Premier League side Leicester. Shved was loaned back and has been rattling in the goals again for Karpaty Lviv, with a hattrick in a 4-0 win against Vorskla the highlight. However, this training injury could rule him out for the rest of the season and that could hamper his impact at Celtic over the summer. Celtic paid £1.8million for him and would have been looking at Shved making an impact next season. Hopefully, his injury won’t be as bad as manager Gonzalez has made out.
