OPINION
Man United have been given the “green light” light to sign Toby Alderweireld, according to the Mirror’s Darren Lewis and Tottenham fans are not happy.
Lewis claims that United have elbowed to the front of the queue for the centre-back, who Tottenham could be forced to sell for £26million because of a release clause activated in his contract.
They didn’t have much choice here, after contract talks stalled with the popular enforcer, but would Spurs really sell to a direct rival?
That’s the real sticking point for Tottenham fans and it’s a good point. Pep Guardiola has already revealed that Man City wouldn’t sell to a rival and Tottenham have history here.
They sold Kyle Walker to Man City for £47.5million in the summer of 2017 and that weakened Spurs and strengthened City, with Walker going on to be a key part of the Guardiola team.
If they did it again it would say a lot about the club’s ambitions and judging by these tweets, Tottenham fans will be furious.
Here are the best reactions from angry fans:
shocking – should do everything they can to keep him and def not sell to a rival

Such a small club mentality. Selling to direct rivals.

He’s definitely off but we must do everything possible to ensure he doesn’t go to a domestic rival.

Selling top players to direct rivals really sticks in the throat. They won’t be rivals for long if we keep doing it

I still dont understand why we strengthen our rivals……when we can sell to MLS, Turkey or China
