It’s not just the senior Leeds United side that has played some breathtaking football this season.

There has been plenty of swagger and free-flowing play from the Under-23s as well, and Leeds fans have been tuning in like never before to see them wipe the floor with so many opponents.

Carlos Corberan’s men opened up an eight-point gap at the top of the Professional Development League northern section after a 4-0 demolition of Charlton Athletic at Elland Road on Monday night.

The Under-23s are in action again tonight (Thursday) as they host Fulham at Nethermoor Park in the last 16 of the Premier League Cup.

The young guns who have blazed such a trail this season will include Jack Clarke as he works his way back to match fitness following his health care last month.

But he won’t be the only first teamer in action, with senior trio Barry Douglas, Gaetano Berardi and Izzy Brown reportedly demoted to the youth side after being on the substitute’s bench in recent Championship matches, including Tuesday’s 3-0 win against Bristol City.

The left-back, centre-back and attacking midfielder will provide experience, knowhow and pedigree to the rising stars who will make up the rest of the team.

Marcelo Bielsa is clearly eager for them to get game time ahead of Saturday’s Championship showdown against Sheffield United, when only an injury is likely to lead to a first-team recall.

At least, Leeds fans heading to Guiseley for the 7pm are set for another feast of football.
