Kemar Roofe has revealed he “can’t wait to be part” of the Elland Road showdown between Leeds United and Sheffield United today.

The striker, 26, has missed the last five Leeds matches with a knee injury and is expected to be sidelined until next month.

But Roofe explained on his personal Twitter and Instagram accounts on Saturday morning he will be at the stadium to drink in “the atmosphere” of the top-of-the-table clash.

OPINION

Roofe’s excitement at today’s showdown demonstrates the togetherness of the Leeds squad and how the injured star very much feels a big part of things despite being sidelined since breaking down against Swansea City on 13 February. He makes it clear with his post that it is just another chance to secure three points, and no different to any other league match in that respect. In other ways, it will be a unique occasion and one which many Leeds fans claim is the biggest of the season so far, and perhaps the single most important one in years. The combination of the quality of the two sides, the fact they are scrapping for automatic promotion at the expense of one another, the Yorkshire rivalry and the time of the season when titles and promotions are within touching distance all add up to creating something special. Marcelo Bielsa would love to be able to call upon a fully fit Roofe, but the striker will only be able to provide moral support for now.
