Victor Orta opened a transfer summit in Barcelona which he insisted can pave the way for a transfer market revolution.

According to Italian newspaper Gazzetta dello Sport, the Leeds United recruitment chief was at a meeting of 150 clubs in the Spanish city to promote the digital platform TransferRoom.

It is said the enterprise will enable clubs to manage transfers in a more efficient and modern way, and Orta joined fellow sporting directors and recruitment bosses from elite European clubs to initiate contacts and exchange ideas for the summer market.

Orta’s involvement is such that he is quoted on TransferRoom’s website as saying:“I feel very comfortable using TransferRoom, because the information is exclusive to a closed circle of football professionals. It is definitely the future of football to have more synergy between clubs.”

OPINION

Along with the likes of Monchi and Wolves director of football Kevin Thelwell, Orta appears to be one of the driving forces behind TransferRoom, hailing its potential to streamline the convoluted process of transfers. That can only be a good thing in an era when doing major player business is forever more complicated, due to the cash involved, the vested interests and the fact so many elite players are now one-man corporations. It is reported that 150 clubs have already signed up to the platform, among them Juventus, Napoli, Sampdoria, Seville, Wolfsburg, Manchester City, Everton, River Plate and Boca Juniors. It’s unclear at this stage how exactly the system will work, with Orta explaining how the clubs will operate in a “closed circle. But it appears certain Leeds will soon be doing business via TransferRoom and, if it can help them secure an advantage in the market, that can only be a good thing.
