Clinton Morrison claimed that Sheffield United had an advantage over Leeds United due to having the option of choosing from four strikers.

The 39-year-old questioned a Leeds United fan called Mitchell, who called into BBC 606 on Saturday, about his club after the supporter reflected on Leeds’ 1-0 defeat to Sheffield United.

The Whites supporter claimed that Patrick Bamford missed too many chances and this prompted Morrison to ask whether Marcelo Bielsa’s side were lacking a player like Sheffield’s Billy Sharp, and directly questioned whether the fan would want him at Elland Road.

“You’re still in it, you’re talking about the strikers and I think Bamford will score goals, obviously you’re missing Kemar Roofe,” said Morrison on BBC 5 Live Sport, as seen in a clip uploaded to their Twitter.

“What Sheffield United have over Leeds at the moment is, I think they have an option of four strikers, Madine, Scott Hogan, McGoldrick, and Billy Sharp.

“Alright then let me put this to you, would you like to have Billy Sharp? I know he’s ex-Leeds, would you like to have a Billy Sharp in your team? Because you know without a shadow of a doubt, he’d score goals.”

This prompted the Leeds fan to share that when he was speaking to his friend a month ago, that he said then that he would have gone out and bought Sharp if he was in charge of Leeds.

OPINION

Sharp only managed five goals in 35 outings for Leeds before jumping to rivals Sheffield United, so perhaps he wouldn’t be everyone’s ideal signing. The 33-year-old has scored 22 league goals this season and helped the Blades be a contender for automatic promotion, yet that doesn’t mean Leeds would benefit from having their rivals star man at their club. Ahead of getting injured Kemar Roofe was leading the line very well for Leeds and has been in clinical form this season. While Morrison might be right to suggest that Leeds could do with some more in-form options upfront to choose from, that doesn’t mean they lack a player like Sharp being in their squad. While the Leeds fan above appears to believe the club made a mistake not snapping up the 33-year-old, though it’s not known whether he’d be keen on a return himself, he may be in the minority on this one.
