OPINION
Leeds United fans have watched their team suffer an endless stream of serious injuries to their star players this season. So, the revelation from Mick McCarthy that he is set for face-to-face talks with Patrick Bamford about switching his allegiance to Republic of Ireland ahead of this month’s Euro 2020 qualifiers has gone down like a lead balloon with the Elland Road faithful. They are almost unanimously agreed they don’t want the fit-again striker, who has been absent for much of this season with two serious knee injuries, risking their club’s automatic promotion pursuit by playing for what would be his adopted country. This comes after ROI boss McCarthy revealed on Sunday that he and Bamford had now agreed to discuss a call-up following his two goals on Friday night. McCarthy told the official Republic of Ireland website: “We’ve exchanged text messages and Patrick is keen to meet up in the coming weeks so it’s just a matter of him finding a date that works. I’ll happily meet him whenever he can do it.” It’s fair to say Leeds fans don’t want the 25-year-old anywhere near the international game in the coming weeks.

Would rather keep him away from extra international games at such a crucial time of the season. Can't afford another injury upfront

He’s only just got himself to the level he needs to be playing at. Last thing we need is another injury ffs
