OPINION
The Leeds United Under-23s team that beat Notts County 2-1 in the Premier League Cup on Friday evening was so strong that it featured eight players with first-team experience, including three seniors in Gaetano Berardi, Stuart Dallas and Izzy Brown on the comeback trail. The goals were scored by Brown from the penalty spot and substitute Ryan Edmonson in the final stages. But it was one who has yet to make his first-team bow, Robbie Gotts, who was the talk of the fanbase delighting afterwards in another convincing performance and win for the age-group side. The 19-year-old was outstanding at right-back, providing a constant threat on the overlap and attacking with the gusto and intent that is the hallmark of the Leeds first team. In a week in which the United managing director Angus Kinnear revealed Gotts is set to be handed a new contract, there was further evidence of the talent below first-team level at Elland Road and how it is being nurtured so sagely by Carlos Corberan.
