Image for Moyles stumped over picture at Elland Road

Chris Moyles hosted his radio show from Elland Road on Thursday and was left stumped over a picture hanging in the Leeds United legends suite.

The known Leeds supporter shared that nobody could name the player pictured and that even former Whites midfielder Chris Kamara didn’t have an inkling who it was.

Radio X’s official Twitter account ended up uploading the picture and it saw several reply to point out that the picture was of former Leeds attacker Enoch Showunmi.

“We’re in the legends suite and nobody can name him, Rob come on in (massive Leeds fans, tell me who that is? (replies no clue) and I’ve just been on to Josh Warrington about this, Chris Kamara has had a little look, Kaiser Chiefs have had a look,” said Moyles on Radio X (Thursday February 21st, 8:21am).

“Mike (mate of mine big Leeds fan) and he is like who’s that? And I’m like no idea, so we’ve had to take a picture and put it on Twitter and maybe they will reply and say me.”

OPINION

Given that Showunmi only played a grand total of 15 times for Leeds United before being released by the club in 2010, it’s no wonder everyone was stumped. It’s fair to say the 36-year-old may not be of legendary status at the club so it’s odd that his picture is hanging in the legend suite. However then again while he may have been used sparingly, the picture used above does represent quite a special moment for the player. Showunmi’s playing time was limited at the club during the 2008/2009 season as he needed time off to recover from a serious blood clot on the lung. The attacker then returned in the 2009/2010 to play against Darlington in the first round of League Cup and he scored the winning goal in that match. This is the moment captured above then – it’s a nice touch by Leeds to feature a picture of him in what would have been a really special time for him, after overcoming such a serious issue.
