Three senior Leeds United players are set to be in action for the club’s Under-23s on Friday night as they step up their comeback bids, according to Joe Urquhart.

The Yorkshire Evening Post correspondent reported on his personal Twitter account on Friday afternoon that Izzy Brown, Stuart Dallas and Gaetano Berardi are set to play at Nethermoor against Notts County in the PL Cup clash starting at 7pm.

Brown is yet to play for Leeds since joining on loan from Chelsea last summer, while Dallas is recovering from an ankle injury and Berardi is working his way back from a torn hamstring.

OPINION

The short journey to Nethermoor provides the ideal opportunity for Brown, Berardi and Dallas to get some more minutes under their belts as they work their way back to full fitness. A big crowd is expected at the non-league venue, especially as Leeds don’t have a senior game until a week on Saturday, when they host Bolton Wanderers at Elland Road. Attacking midfielder Brown has been an unused substitute in United’s last two games – against Middlesbrough and Swansea City – as Marcelo Bielsa doesn’t quite regard him as fit enough for his comeback. Berardi has also had a lengthy absence since October and is likely to have to bide his time, especially as the defence has been so effective in recent times, both in the Swiss’ former full-back role and the centre-back position he played at the start of this campaign. As for the versatile Dallas, he can slot into a number of different positions, and it will be a boost for Bielsa when he can call upon the Northern Ireland international again.
