Brentford chairman Cliff Crown revealed that the London club had requested for additional information in regards to the ongoing investigation about Leeds United’s spy scandal.

The Bees chief shared that he couldn’t say too much as the investigation was still ongoing but did respond briefly when a Leeds fan asked for Crown to be questioned how he felt about the spy scandal as well as the Whites potentially getting promoted.

“The investigation is still going on so I can’t really say much about that…” said Crown on talkSPORT (Friday February 15th 12:27pm).

“There is some additional information that we have requested, I can’t say much.

Crown then replied no on two accounts when asked whether Brentford’s stance on Leeds’ spy scandal was public and he also replied no when questioned whether new legislation being brought in could be backdated resulting in the Whites being punished.

OPINION

Given that Brentford have requested more information of Leeds’ use of spies this season, it seems this whole saga is still destined to drag on even longer. Crown keeps his cards close to his chest regarding Brentford’s view on the whole headline-stealing scenario and it’s easy to see why. Well the Brentford chief did make it clear that his club had requested more information, it’s not his place to really public speak about it in case it effects the ongoing investigation. While Leeds fans will be sick of the whole talk of spying at this point, they’ll be pleased to hear that Crown believes new legislation being introduce wouldn’t see their team punished in hindsight. It would be absolutely crazy if a new ruling was brought in and Leeds punished as that would be completely unfair and set a bad precedent. While many will have different opinions about spygate, hopefully the fact Marcelo Bielsa was so open by holding a press conference about the whole thing, as covered by the Telegraph, will work in Leeds’ favour.
