Highly-rated Rangers goalkeeper Aidan McAdams is set to join Annan Athletic on loan for the rest of the season, according to the Scottish Sun.

The newspaper claim that the Scottish League Two club have struck a deal for the 19-year-old after failing in a bid to sign him last summer.

The Scottish Sun report first-team boss Steven Gerrard has given the green light for McAdams leave Ibrox on a temporary deal, even though he is currently training with senior duo Allan McGregor and Wes Foderingham.

Good move for Rangers?

Yes. McAdams has yet to play for Rangers since joining from Celtic in the summer of 2017 and a loan move to a club where he can hope to get much-needed senior game time under his belt is just what the doctor ordered at this stage of his career. There comes a time when players need to be playing men’s football and move away from age-group fixtures, and that time is now for highly-rated McAdams. It is questionable whether Scotland’s fourth tier is the right level for the Scotland youth international. Perhaps he should be at least one division higher, but the main thing is that he is at a club where the pressure will be on him to deliver and justify his status as a rising star on the books of of one of British football’s elite clubs.

Likely to happen?

This appears to be all but done. McAdams has previously made it clear that he would like a loan spell away from Rangers, and he seems to have now got his wish.
