Rangers goalkeeper Aidan McAdams has confirmed that he wants to find a loan move away from Ibrox in a bid to increase his chances of first team football in Glasgow.

McAdams, 19, joined the Gers from bitter rivals Celtic last year but is yet to break into the senior squad.

The youngster has held talks with four different members of staff at Ibrox and he has now decided that a temporary switch away from Govan will be the best thing for his career.

“I need to get first team games before I can do much in the game and I have spoken to Craig Mulholland and Billy Kirkwood, who is now the Loan Manager for the Development Squad,” he said, as quoted by the Herald.

“And I have spoken to my two goalie coaches, Colin [Stewart] and Graeme Smith and we think the next thing for me is to go out and get that experience of playing against men week in week out. I am looking forward to that.

He added: “Hopefully I can get that loan move and I will do my best wherever I am. If I make any mistakes, I will learn from them and I am sure I will enjoy the experience in a first team environment.”

OPINION

McAdams is clearly someone who is hungry for success and that is a brilliant indicator of the player’s attitude and work-ethic. He quit Celtic last year and made a controversial move to Rangers. Only players who are serious about making it as a professional will agree to such a controversial move at such a young age as it opens them up to all kinds of criticism online. McAdams clearly hasn’t been fazed by any of that and now he is so eager to make it at Rangers that he knows the best way to succeed is to go out on loan elsewhere. It makes a lot of sense. Everyone knows about the benefits of younger players going out on loan so hopefully McAdams can find himself a new temporary home and return to Ibrox much closer to Steven Gerrard’s first team than he was when he left. Jak Alnwick is set to return to Rangers in January when his short-term loan at Port Vale ends so going out on loan in the winter is a good idea for McAdams as he will drop even further down the pecking order as it stands.
