Leeds United will wait until the summer to discuss new deals with Kemar Roofe, Kalvin Phillips and Jack Clarke, according to The Sun.

The national newspaper’s print edition (Sunday January 27th, page 63) claims that the Whites will hold off having contract talks with the first-team trio right now despite all three wanting a pay rise.

Clarke’s current contract expires in 2021, Roofe’s deal is set to finish in 2020 and Phillips’ contract is due to expire in 2021.

OPINION

Leeds really shouldn’t be dragging their feet over new deals for their first-team trio as all of them are important and are young enough that there shouldn’t be a hesitation about paying them more.  The only reason you can justify Leeds waiting until the summer is they want to wait to see if they’re set to play their football in the Premier League or in the Championship. If Leeds do win promotion this season to England’s top-flight you feel they should be able to offer Roofe, Phillips and Clarke contracts that their performances this season deserve. All three have stood out for one reason or another this season and it’s understandable that the trio all want rewarding financially for their efforts. This is particularly the case with Clarke as the current campaign has been an important one for him as he has managed to break into the first-team and feature on a regular basis.
