It is time for Leeds United’s fans to start getting very excited about their club’s pursuit of Swansea City winger Daniel James.

The Yorkshire giants have made the wide man their number one target to reinforce their attack in the final 10 days of the January window and are hoping to secure a deal this week.

The latest update from the Yorkshire Evening Post is hugely encouraging for Whites eager for the club to add a blue-chip outfield player by the end of the month.

It is said by reliable correspondent Phil Hay that Leeds are yet to meet Swansea’s valuation of £3million+ for James but “believe they have a strong chance of securing a player whose contract ends in 18 months’ time”.

Indeed, Leeds want the deal done by the time they make the short journey to face Rotherham in the Championship on Saturday.

United’s determination to sign James, coupled with the player’s contract situation, means this is a transfer that has legs on it before the 31 January cut-off.

As the Wales international pointed out at the weekend, as quoted by Wales Online, he has not been offered a new contract by Swansea and is waiting to hear if one is on the way.

Leeds have a great opportunity to push hard to sign a player who has immense potential, and can add real cutting edge to an attack that was unconvincing in Saturday’s 2-1 defeat at Stoke City.

United supporters will be overjoyed that their club are closing in on James.
